D3D (Direct 3D) mode

Graphics Adjustments

When XP first came out D3D was the ONLY way to get LB2 to run.

Since then we've had Glide Wrappers come online that work much better. However some folks can still only get D3D mode to work.

Using the lb2cfg.exe program located in your c:\janes\longbow2 install directory, select the Direct3D Display Engine settings and the Matrox card.

This configuration should work for most video cards.
For ATI and NVIDIA cards you may need to perform one more step (see below).

lb2cfg.exe display, figure 1.

As mentioned, this should create a working D3D setup on your system. If you still have display issues, try this working configuration file. d3d.zip Just save this file to your c:\janes\longbow2 game directory

Here's what the contents of this file look like.

[Direct3D Configuration]

DisallowInd8Textures=1
TextureSkewOption=Detect
FlushPipelineWithNewScene=0
DisableBltToScreen=1
DisableAgpSupport=0
ForceTexturedIteratedAlpha=0
AdditionalL1TextureMemory=16000

If you have more memory on your video card you can increase the AdditionalL1TextureMemory setting. I haven't noticed any difference using higher amounts.

Note that if you come back into this program and change between Software, D3D or 3DFX modes, using the LB2cfg.exe utility, your D3D file gets reset to defaults! If you want D3D mode again, you'll need to adjust it manually yet again (so keep that D3D.zip file handy).

PS - Above all, be patient, especially with D3D mode.

There can be a considerable delay between the base screens an until you actually get into the pilots seat.
Same goes when you exit to go back to the base screens. You may think it's locked up, but if you wait a bit longer you'll be rewarded.

One thing I noticed on my machine is that I needed to disable fast writes (off) on my ATI card for LB2 to work properly. It's not that important to enable it now a days anyhow.
