News/Updates ** As well as all major site updates being posted here, you may also find news at the Helosim main page and the SimHQ Forums for Jane's Longbow Series ** 14/03/2010 - First of all, may I say a huge thanks to the guy who sent me a donation (4th March) for my work on this site and with LB2. You shall remain anonymous but you know who you are! May others follow in your footsteps! Thanks again, much appreciated! Between the 'After Action Reports' and 'Jane's Longbow Series' forums at SimHQ, iamfritz has had over 2750 views for his LB2 AAR (linked further down page). Nice one! SimHQ Forum newcomer PedroTheGoat has come up with a novel idea to be able to run LB2. Instead of having a cumbersome legacy machine, he's come up with the idea of buying a cheap-ass netbook with Windows XP on it. He has a EeePC 1000HE and just plugs in his USB Saitek joystick, a USB keyboard, and a USB mouse. He then simply plugged a VGA cable into his 42" LCD TV and is able to play LB2 at the highest resolution that the dgVoodoo glide wrapper will allow - with no slowdown. It's also worth noting that he upgraded his RAM from 1Gb to 2Gb on his netbook. See it here in gorgeous 1080p on his 42"! A few things, so here goes... 1) This site, and in fact ALL my websites, have been down at one time or another these last couple months. I hope this isn't going to be a regular thing and it's not something I can resolve as it seems to be a server-side issue. Sorry for any inconvenience. 2) SimHQ member slutzinc has kindly made a proper working Saitek X52 Pro profile for LB2. Find it on the 'Controller/Joystick Profiles' page. Thanks! 3) A while ago I wrote an article for SimHQ about installing and running LB2 on modern computers. Well, it has finally been published. The SimHQ Feature article titled Jane's Longbow 2 and Modern Computers is available to view here. See feedback here. Thanks to guod for giving me that opportunity. It is also linked to from the 'Reviews' page. A copy of the original draft can be found locally here. 4) Last but not least, it has come to my attention that someone or something has edited my LB1 and LB2 Wikipedia pages! Only minor edits but how dare they!? Also, I took a look at my LB2 Vista/7 Fix download page at FileFront the other day and see that it has infact now been downloaded over 600 times! ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 13/02/2010 - I've now saved and added the Combatsim.com screenshots locally to the 'Screenshots' page, so there are no longer broken links to the external site there. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 11/02/2010 - On the 'Screenshots' page at this site, it has come to my attention that several links to shots on external sites are now broken. The Longbow Gold and Longbow 2 shot links at Combatsim.com now present you with a small image saying 'IMAGE THEFT STOPPED'. When you click on the links to the shots at cprinternational.com you get a 'DNS Error' and the LB2 shots by Magnum at SimHQ link takes you to a page that says 'There was a problem looking up this post in our database.' For now, all links will remain broken. Over at the SimHQ Community Hall forums there is a topic titled 'Your Top Ten Games of All Time'. There are quite a few people who list Jane's Longbow, Longbow Gold and/or Longbow 2 in their posts. Take a look at the thread here. iamfritz has done an LB2 After Action Report (AAR) with humorous commentary and lots of pics, find that also at SimHQ here. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 03/02/2010 - Minor updates to several pages, plus a Saitek X52 Pro profile for LB2 by Phoenix has been added to the 'Controller/Joystick Profiles' page. Thank you sir! ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 16/01/2010 - I haven't been able to do any website updates for a while now due to family commitments. I've finally found some time to get down and dirty with it. The first thing that I want to address is the 'Free Web Hosting' text that you may be seeing at the top of each webpage on this site. This has affected all of my sites that are made with Cool Page, but not others, for some reason. The text here is at the top of the page, partially obscured by the title logo image. It is in fact added by the free web server that I use and is placed in my HTML code AFTER upload - therefore, there is nothing I can do about it. This text used to be hidden on the actual page and could only be seen in the source code for the page. It's not TOO much of a problem but is just damn annoying! I've finally been able to get more info and a pic on the late Kevin '+G' Speichts, who sadly passed away suddenly last year. Find a pic of him and more info surrounding his death at the 'Tribute' page here. Added a page for problems and solutions running LB2 with Windows Vista/7, here. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ << Archived news >> |
